Grocery Prep: Best Rated Grocery Supermarkets in Canada

Grocery Prep: Best Grocery Supermarkets in Canada

Getting ready for your day is exciting, especially when settling into a new country. One of the biggest adjustments when moving abroad is adapting to a new routine, learning about local spots, and finding the best supermarkets. When we moved to Vancouver in 2022, it took some time to figure out the top grocery stores and how to manage our budget effectively.

For us, online shopping turned out to be the most convenient option, even though visiting stores has its charm. Here, I’m sharing my top five grocery stores in Vancouver, along with details about their features, pricing, and whether they offer online shopping and Canadian groceries.

Top 5 Grocery Stores in Vancouver -Best Rated Grocery Supermarkets in Canada

  1. No Frills
If you’re looking for affordability, No Frills is your go-to grocery store. It’s one of the cheapest options for families on a budget. However, it does not offer online shopping, so you’ll need to visit the store. Despite the lack of convenience for online orders, the low prices make it worth the trip, especially for essentials like produce, canned goods, and household items. Visit No Frills
  2. Safeway
Safeway is known for its high-quality products, especially fresh produce and baked goods. While it can be a bit pricey compared to other stores, it’s worth it for the quality and variety. The best part? Safeway offers online shopping through Voilà, a convenient delivery service that’s perfect for busy families. If you value convenience and premium products, Safeway is an excellent choice. Visit Safeway
  3. Walmart
Walmart is perfect for the basics. It’s budget-friendly and offers a wide range of products, from groceries to household essentials. Walmart also provides curbside pickup, which is incredibly convenient for families who don’t have time to shop in-store. While it may not offer the highest quality in all categories, it’s great for saving money on staples. Visit Walmart
  4. Real Canadian Superstore
While it may not be my favorite, the Real Canadian Superstore is a solid choice for average prices and good variety. They also offer curbside pickup, which makes shopping easier for families. This store is great for finding a bit of everything, from fresh produce to pantry staples, at reasonable prices. Visit Real Canadian Superstore
  5. Costco
A Costco membership is a must-have if you’re new to Canada and shopping for a family. Buying in bulk can save you a lot of money, especially on items like snacks, meat, and household supplies. While the upfront membership cost may seem high, the long-term savings are worth it. Costco also has some organic and specialty items, making it a great all-around choice for families. Visit Costco

Bonus Tip: Explore Vancouver’s Farmers Markets

If you’re living in Vancouver, don’t miss the opportunity to visit local farmers markets. They’re perfect for finding fresh, seasonal produce and supporting local farmers. Here are three of the most popular farmers markets in Vancouver:

  1. Trout Lake Farmers Market
One of the largest and most popular markets in the city, offering everything from organic produce to handmade goods. Learn More
  2. Kitsilano Farmers Market
A family-friendly market with a great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and artisanal products. Learn More
  3. Riley Park Farmers Market

Final Thoughts

Adapting to grocery shopping in Canada has been an exciting journey for our family. Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly options or high-quality products, Vancouver’s grocery stores have something for everyone.
